lost in translation

Reading my previous post, the English and Russian texts are not identical translations. The Russian version is more colloquial. Can someone tell me how to translate it better? The problem is that a lot of my English is learnt from books, and I lack the right dictionary. This really hinders me when expressing my thoughts in English. As someone has told me, "From your English I can tell that you are an educated person". Who'd want that?
